Green tea weight loss. Oprah was intrigued by her guest Dr. Nigel Perricone, on a show back in 2004. He maintained that just by switching green tea for the coffee she normally drank, that show would lose weight.
Can this be true? Did green tea equal weight loss for Oprah?

Dr. Perricone is famous for his 3 day diet for your skin. A side effect of that diet was that people lost weight! So while he has really specialized in diet and your skin, he has also become know for diets that help you lose weight.

Watching Oprah and her weight loss has become somewhat of a national past time. Oprah, like many of us women, has struggled with her weight. We've watched her go up and down the scales and clothes sizes.

Oprah picked up on that on her November 10, 2004, titled "Look 10 Years Younger in 10 Days" with guest Dr. Perricone Here is the transcript of the interview.Oprah: Now I've read in your book that you said if I just replaced coffee with green tea instead, that I could lose 10 pounds in six weeks.
Dr. Perricone: Absolutely.
Oprah: Now really. How could that -- what is the big deal about this?
Dr Perricone: Coffee has organic acids that raise your blood sugar, raise insulin. Insulin puts a lock on body fat. When you switch over to green tea, you get your caffeine, you're all set, but you will drop your insulin levels and body fat will fall very rapidly. So 10 pounds in six weeks, I will guarantee it.
Oprah: I'm gonna do that. OK. That is so good! Whoo! That is great.

OK, maybe it was a bit of a risk, making a statement like that -- no one can guarantee a specific weight loss in a specific time frame. After all, everyone loses weight differently, especially past 40.
Did Oprah indeed lose 10 pounds in six weeks? That's between her scales and her. But there have been studies done on green tea that seem to back up Dr. Perricone's statement that green tea can help with weight loss.

There have been studies done to back up Dr. Perricone's statement that green tea can help with weight loss. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a paper on the efficacy of green tea, and there have been others specifically about weight loss and green tea.
Naturally, not everyone agrees that green tea stimulates weight loss...but when did any weight loss program or aid get unanimous approval. There appear to be many more "ayes" than "nays" when it comes to green tea weight loss. Learn more about the active ingredients in green tea.

Caffeine and Green Tea
Green tea does contain caffeine, although much less than coffee or even black tea.
And actually, the theanine in green tea helps to reduce the caffeine load!
If you're sensitive to caffeine, though, you can check your local health food store for a decaffeinated green tea extract.
