Green Tea For Weightloss

Green tea for weightloss is both simple and complicated.

It's simple, because just by swapping out your regular coffee or sodas for green tea, you can boost your body's fat burning ability.  It's a very easy change for you to make.

It's complicated because every tea is different.  Yes, there are different qualities of green tea, and by picking a lower-quality one, you can give up some of those fat-burning qualities.

Why Green Tea?

So what makes green tea better than black tea?  Is there really a difference when it comes to weightloss?

Drink green tea for weightlossThere are three things that give green tea its healthy qualities:  flavonoids, theanine and catechins.  Add a little bit of caffeine (green tea has very small amounts), and you have a beverage that not only can help you lose weight...but it's good for you, too!

But what are these mysterious substances, and what do they do in the body?

What Makes Green Tea for Weightloss So Healthy?

Flavonoids are heavy-hitters in the antioxidant world.  Flavonoids are found in several common foods -- red wines and chocolates are most familiar -- but green tea has very high amounts.  By helping to clean up the free radicals, your body feels better and is better.

Flavonoids have also been studied for the reputed anti-cancer effect they have.  And while there is no real anti-cancer pill or shot, increasing your flavonoid intake can help guard against this devastating disease.

Theanine in an amino acid, and guess what -- it's only found in tea!  One of the neat properties of theanine is that it can help to de-stress and relax you.  Relaxing can help you lose weight by reducing the stress hormones, such as cortisol, that can keep the fat locked up in your body. So the theanine in green tea can help weightloss, while de-stressing you at the same time!

Catechins are also exceedingly powerful antioxidants.  One catechin, epigallocatechin-3-gallate (also known as EGCG) has 25 times the antioxidant properties of vitamin E!  Once again, by helping your body to be more healthy, you are also helping your body to release fat instead of storing it.

Kinds of Green Tea

There are two kinds of green tea you can buy -- tea bags and loose tea.

If you can manage it, loose tea is best for weightloss.  It's more difficult to find, but its taste and superior antioxidants make it worth the trouble.

Green tea in tea bags is easier to find -- in fact most grocery stores carry some form of green tea.  But if you have a health-food store nearby, you'd be better off getting your green tea there.  The green tea for weightloss generally has a high turnover rate, so you stand a good chance of getting fresher tea.

Storing Your Green Tea

Humidity and oxygen are the two main enemies of fresh tea.  By storing your tea in an airtight container (or at the very least a tightly closed zip bag), your tea will be fresher, longer.

Store your green tea away from heat and light sources -- don't store it over the stove or in direct sunlight.

And here's another reason to keep your green tea for weightloss in an airtight container -- green tea leaves can pick up odors very easily.

Protect your green tea -- keep it stored well so it keeps its health-giving properties for you!
